Safety is our top priority at the Saimaa Cycle Tour. That is why we offer all participants access to the free WHIP Live Tracking real-time service. The service is completely free of charge for participants, and we highly recommend its activation for every cyclist taking part in the event.

Why use WHIP Live Tracking?

  • Accurate and fast assistance in case of problems: If you encounter any issues along the route and call the event's hotline, our maintenance vehicles can see your exact location directly from the system. This ensures that help will find you quickly and at the right location.

  • Safety first: The event organization can monitor progress on the route, potentially unusual stationary times, and speeds. If someone veers off the track or remains stopped for a long time, we can react in a timely manner.

  • Supporters along for the ride: Your friends, family, and supporters can follow your progress live through the beautiful scenery of Saimaa from the comfort of their homes on a great live map, and easily search for you by name.

  • Ease of use: The app runs in the background. Once you have logged into the event, the tracking starts and stops automatically at the beginning and at the end of the event – you do not need to open the app separately during the ride.

How does Live Tracking work in practice?

Through the mobile app, the organization and maintenance vehicles get an accurate status update of every cyclist on the route via a virtual dashboard. This ensures a high level of safety and allows us to target assistance precisely. The public live tracking page allows a remote audience to search for individual participants by name and follow their journey live.

Does the app consume a lot of battery?

No need to worry – WHIP uses a passive tracking system optimized to minimize battery consumption. With the app running in the background, the impact of the Live Tracking mode on battery life is only about 5–10% more compared to normal smartphone use. Location information updates automatically in the system at regular intervals (every 2 to 15 minutes).
